Protecting your data

Could you manage if you lost all you data today? It's a question worth serious consideration. The fact is, most business only seriously consider backups and disaster recovery after the event but even a ilttle planning can make a big difference.

As we become more and more reliant on IT, we become more vunerable to it failures and increasing threats from malicious software and viruses.

Even something as simple as a memory stick can save you hours or days of frustration and anxiety. BMG Accountancy have been using cloud based data storage solutions for about a year now and have found the peace of mind it brings to be a great benefit as well as the convenience of data access from outside the office.

This week we are looking at basic book keeping using MS Excel. MS Excel is a very simple way of keeping you records in order and is not very time consuming at all. You can even use it to perform a simple bank reconciliation.

All you need to do is set up separate tabs for your receipts and payments and another for the reconciliation.

One advantage of using Excel is that the entries are very transparent. Book-keeping software can sometimes make it difficult to really understand where entries have gone without a full understanding of how it all works but a simple spreadsheet is very easy to follow. It is also easy to make amendments and corrections without any fear of messing it all up.

We help many clients to keep the records in this way and can even set up the templates for you to use and then e-mail the completed sheets to us. For any advise and assistance, give us a call.
